This week marks the beginning of our new series looking at “the difficult texts of the New Testament.” Now this is quite different to the difficult texts of the Old Testament. When we think of difficult Old Testament texts, we think about texts like Elisha and the two bears that maul forty ‘children’, or Judges 19, 20 and 21 with issues like murder, rape, and civil war amongst other. But when we think of difficult texts in the New Testament, we find that often it isn’t the text itself that we struggle with.
