ABOUT US

HISTORY OF TRINITY:
Presbytery and the Pretoria Diocese of the Anglican Church undertook the establishment of Trinity as a joint development. The foundation stone was laid in 1971 and the sanctuary was completed and consecrated in 1978. The property belongs to a joint Anglican and Presbyterian Trust. Although the congregations each maintain their own identity and worship in separate worship services, they share the sanctuary and all the facilities.

In 1979 Tim Horwood was appointed at Trinity as a student for ministry, became our pastor and served God here until his retirement in March 1996. By this time Trinity had become well established in Lynnwood . In July 1996 we welcomed Robin Jacobson in our midst. He left in December 2000 when he accepted a call to Vancouver. A pastoral vacancy followed until Alan Cameron was inducted in January 2002. Albie Jordaan served as Youth Pastor from March 2005 to August 2008.

A BIT ABOUT TRINITY:
We are a congregation of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa.
We seek to be Gospel Centered and Mission Focused.

There are 380 members in our congregation. As a Presbyterian Church, we enjoy the shared leadership of our Elders, moderated by our Minister, Alan Cameron. Alan wrote recently:  “As the minister at Trinity I have taken my cue from the leaders of the Reformation who saw their role as reducing the gap between clergy and so-called laity through proper preaching, celebrating the sacraments and healthy church discipline. They saw baptism as ordination to ministry. Believers are saved to serve. The church is not a hierarchical organization and leadership is simply another sphere of service.”

The number of Elders at Trinity varies; currently there are 14 serving the congregation in this capacity. They are: Alan Cameron (Moderator), Gordon Hay (Session Clerk), Andre van der Walt, Ben Kruger, Chris Sheppard, Dave Turner, Heyn Van Rooyen, Huw Davies, Maggie Home, John Home, Peter Havenga, Riaan Van Deventer, Louise Ruch, Sue Hay and Pierre Fourie, who co-ordinates the Youth Ministry together with his wife, Lorna, is associated with Session.

God has blessed Trinity with many resources. We have intentionally sought to practice the ministry of all believers by endeavouring to recognize and release resources, so that all are enabled to participate in being the Body of Christ.

We recognize that the source of our resources is not ourselves and our gifts, but God and His grace.  As stewards of God’s grace and truth we are called to something beyond our human ability to achieve, namely creating community grounded in saving faith and gospel truth.
